Welcome to Life Inside the Bubble

Hi, I’m Harry Cheadle. This newsletter is about the bubble, which is my name for the economic class of people who are protected from the material impacts of poverty. Due to their own wealth or their families’ wealth, these people will never go hungry for long periods of time, suffer homelessness, or have to work multiple grueling jobs to provide for their families. Though they generally deny they are “rich,” residents of the bubble have an outsized influence on politics and culture, and often quietly wield this power in order to preserve their privileges. I count myself as belonging to this class, and think that we should talk more openly about money and the structural advantages we inherit.

About Me

From 2010 to 2020 I worked for VICE as a writer and an editor covering (at various times) everything from internet culture to politics to climate change. Since then I’ve written and edited for a variety of publications, including the Daily Beast, the New Republic, and Blue Tent. I’ve lived in New York and Los Angeles and now live in Seattle. If you want to know more about me you can follow me on Twitter, check out my work on my website, or just email me. (I answer every email.)
